Individual Lessons
Functional Integration lessons (FI)
Tailored to your specific needs to help you find a more comfortable and wider range of movement promoting strength and suppleness
Each lesson revolves around a question: How do your habits of movement help you, but at the same time stand in the way of doing better?
In a typical lesson, we discuss this, then you lie fully-clothed on a low table as the teacher's hands gently support you, suggesting, encouraging and guiding you towards new ways of moving and organising yourself.
Each lesson is unique and designed for you to address your particular habits of moving and holding yourself. Your increasing self-awareness enables you to let go of these habits, to find and choose new patterns of movement; you may find similar development in the flexibility of your thinking and feeling.
The lesson will often lead to suggestions for ways of working on your own, in order to help the new choices become a lasting part of your life. Lessons are particularly useful for specific or long-standing problems, to deepen your experience of Awareness Through Movement classes, or to provide ongoing support for your everyday life.

Feet for Balance and Weight-Shift
When functioning well your feet help you feel agile, responsive, powerful as well as physically and emotionally self-supporting.
Consider that Moshe Feldenkrais said that he could tell the state of a person's vision from the soles of their feet!
I interpret this as meaning a bias in vision or focus also biases muscle tone throughout the whole self and that is recorded in your feet.
That’s the delicacy and intelligence of your feet and toes and yet they also take and distribute weight - 3 times your body weight when running.
And we cram them into socks and shoes and forget them!
In this workshop we will reawaken your feet, explore and improve balance, weight shift, and all the associated everyday functions: coming to stand, walking, running, climbing stairs, dancing and so on.

“… We made subtle movements with our hands and, separately, with our feet, and today I felt my gait (which has been unsteady and getting worse for a couple of months) stabilise - I felt a sturdiness I don't recall ever feeling before - and my chest (which has been to a large extent collapsed for some time) unfurl and settle more comfortably on my torso.”

Twisting and Turning
This workshop is about gentle turning and twisting to remind our ribs of their inherent flexibility which will deliver a surprising change to the functioning of your legs.
This will also be of interest to you if you have scoliosis.
Moshe Feldenkrais’ martial arts background and studies of human development informed his belief that as humans we can and should be poised and agile, ready to move in any direction at any time.
The necessity for this to survive is not so much of an imperative now but could a physical readiness or springiness contribute to feelings of resilience, emotional flexibility and capacity to roll with the punches as well as to all over physical wellbeing?
